CLIMB MOUNT TRONADOR ON THE PATH LESS TRAVELED
Horse access and cross the border of Argentina & Chile
Length Trip
3 days
Season
September to April
Level
Intermediate mountaineering- comfortable on horseback (4 hours) and glacier terrain
Style
Classic Mountaineering- glacier travel involved
This guided mountaineering trip is another option to climb Mount Tronador (3554 m), the highest summit of the Nahuel Huapi National Park and the Bariloche area. This route is off the beaten path, and you will have a little more adventure while avoiding the crowds.
(Especially in January, Bariloche’s high season.)
We gain a lot of altitude on Tronador with an approach on horses until the border of Argentina and Chile. Get your passport stamped in one the most remote customs offices in Patagonia. Your mountain guide will take you hiking on the Chilean side of Mt. Tronador to a Vivac Hut very close to the Manso Glacier, “Refugio Viejo”, aka “Refugio Mt Tronador”.
From Refugio Tronador it is easier to access “Pico Argentino” and Tronador’s highest peak,“Pico Internacional”, compared to the classic route from Refugio Otto Meilling.
