TRIP DETAILS

The Andes of Argentina and Chile, belongs to the Ring of Fire offering amazing volcanoes in the Andean range. Some of this Chilean volcanoes are excellent objectives for guiding our ski clients after a hut ski touring trip in the Bariloche area. So we decided to offer a quick option for clients without much time.

We offer quick 2 days trip to Volcan Osorno, Casablanca, Puyehue, Villarica, Mocho-Choshuenco, Lanin, Llaima, Lonquimay, Sierra Nevada.

This volcanoes have in between 1400 – 2000 meters elevation gain in a day. Most of them are close to nice hot springs and belongs to the Lake District of Patagonia. To access them we use some different passes to cross the Argentinien-Chilean border and could be by car or ferry boat.

The Ring of Fire is a ring of volcanoes around the Pacific Ocean that result from subduction of oceanic plates beneath lighter continental plates. Most of the Earth’s volcanoes are located around the Pacific Ring of Fire because that the location of most of the Earth’s subduction zones.

INTINERARY

Day 1:
Drive to base of the Volcano, this means around 4-6 hs drive to location. Sometimes is a farm house, a little hotel in a town as Pucon, sometimes a hut like in Osorno Volcano.

Day 2:
Early morning, ascent to the volcano, normally takes a 5-6 hours ascent. 1500 meters average elevation gain, using crampons and ice axe close to summit. Summit, ski down in nice spring conditions

Ski down, repack and drive back.

GEAR LIST

This gear list is designed for Haute Route in the Alps, Hut to Hut trips in Patagonia, Frey Hut Skiing or any Multiday Mountain Ski Trip

  • Backpack 35-40 lts
  • Sleeping bag ideal 600/700 grams of down fill
  • 2 pairs of  sintethic socks (like Columbia or similar)
  • Quick dry pants with Schoeller material (North face, Mammut or similar)
  • Merino wool long underwear
  • Water proof Goretex pants
  • T shirt- Capilene or Merino wool ideal
  • Thin fleece, like Patagonia R1 or similar with a hood ideal
  • Mid fleece layer or synthetic Jacket with some insulation
  • Down jacket or warm puffy
  • Water proof Goretex jacket
  • Thin Fleece gloves for skinning or waiting in belays
  • Thick ski gloves
  • Warm hat
  • Sun hat
  • Sunglasses with UV filter + Goggles
