TRIP DETAILS

The Bernese Oberland is the highest part of the canton of Berna, this area is surrounded by many 4000’s peaks, having the biggest concentration of higher peaks in the Alps. The area is well provided with Swiss Alpine huts, which gives an easy and friendly logistic to climb a big amount of the 4000 peaks,  spending nights in different mountain huts.

The most famous mountains that surround the area are: The Eiger, The Monk, Jungfrau, Finsteraarnhorn and other satellites.

We love this area because is a bit less crowded than the Classic Haute Route and gives the opportunity to do nice ski tours with nice summits, involves a bit of classic mountaineering.

There are endless combinations to ski in this big glaciated area and we choose a nice itinerary to see most of it in few days trying to get the best skiing, nice summits  in the high backcountry of the Alps.

ITINERARY

Day 1:
We start in Interlaken taking train that will put us up at around 3600mts. It is the well renown train that goes throughout the Eiger and finally will leave us in the Jungfraujoch (Jungfrau pass), where with a short thirty minutes ski tour we will arrive to Monchhutte. So if you are coming from a long flight from home the day before, the first day is a good way to get into the alpine without too much effort.

Night in Monchhutte.

Day 2:
Ski touring nearby of Monchhutte in the morning.

Ski Walcherhorn and other smaller peaks that day.

Night in Monchutte

Day 3:
Ski down and climb Trugberg (3933) mts and ski down the south glacier towards Konkordia Plateau, then climb up to Grunhornlucke to descent finally to Finsteraarhornhutte.

According to fitness and weather, we climb Finsteraarhorn (4274) or Wannenhorn (3906).

Any of those peaks are majestic, one is a mountaineering objective, the other one is a perfect ski objective
