TRIP DETAILS

We started to do this trip back in 1999 , connecting the entire Tronador East Massif from South to North in our trip Glacier, Jungle and Deep Blue Lakes (http://www.andescross.com/trips/glacier-jungle-and-deep-blue-lakes-trek-trip/)

Now we offer  this short version of the big loop for persons who have less days and experience to enjoy the big glaciers of Tronador

The idea of this guided trek trip is to offer to adventurers a good short experience of glacier travel, connecting two huts, some glacier crossing and a boat ride back to Bariloche.

INTINERARY

Day 1:
From Bariloche to Otto Meilling hut in Monte Tronador

Early in the morning, we depart from Bariloche driving scenic 80 km in Nahuel Huapi National Park. Arrival to Pampa Linda and around five hours guided trek to Otto Meilling hut, the hike consist in 15 km day and 900 meters elevation gain to get to the foot of the Tronador glaciers

Short walk on Castano Overa glacier to get use to crampons and gear. Little trek in between traverses.

Night in Otto Meilling hut

Day 2:
Cruce del Glaciar Alerce – Alerce glacier crossing

After breakfast we start our hike, get our harness and gear ready. After 30 minutes approach we get to the entrance of the glacier, then rope up and do this fantastic scenic crossing.

The crossing is short and takes less than an hour, appreciating big ice holes and beautiful waterfalls. After that we will navigate on rock and trails until we get to the high pass of  “Paso de las Nubes” (cloudy pass)- Here is located the new hut “ Refugio Roca”

If the team is avid and want we can climb some of the peaks in that area during the afternoon.

Nice dinner with the scenic view of Valle Frias

Night in Refugio Paso de las Nubes (Refugio Roca) .

Day 3:

Our trip finishes at Agostino Rocca hut on day 2,
Option Paso de las Nubes- Lago Frias – Bariloche or Paso de las Nubes back to Pampa Linda

Guide will already leave you the day before since the hike is easy.

You can choose  to Hike to Lago Frias (recommended) and go through deep Valdivian lushly forest. Big millennial Alerce trees, jungle terrain. Feels like being in middle of an Amazon jungle, but is just the Valdivian Patagonian forest 🙂

The trek starts at 1400 mosl , and  descend to close to 800 meters along the day. Takes an average of 6 hs to descend to the bottom valley, hike across it and arrive to lago Frias.

From here we take the boat of Lago Frias along the lake and connect the catamaran in Puerto Blest to get back to Bariloche.

You get picked up in Puerto Panuelo and drive you to hotel.

Paso de las Nubes to Pampa Linda

Also you can finish the loop hiking back to Pampa Linda through the Alerce valley, takes around 4 hs in a well marked path

Very nice hike in the forest
