We invite you to visit one of the most pristine destinations in the World very close to the North Pole. Breathtaking scenery sailing around the Island of Spitsbergen and surroundings. Fresh ocean air in your face while picking pristine ski lines. Amazing scenery with wildlife as Polar bears, whales and birds. World Class ski destination in the middle of the Arctic. We will arrive to Longyearbyen airport, then we board and live, sail and ski from Sailboat. Captain has plenty of knowledge of the area and mountains in general. He is also a IFMGA Mountain guide and resides in Chamonix, France.
We will get on board and sail and ski for 8 days around the Islands of the territory .
ITINERARY
Day 1:
Arrival to Longyearbyen airport in Spitsbergen Island, Svalbard. Taxi to Hotel.
Get safety briefing. Polar bears education and safety. Check gear.
Day 2 to 8:
This is the minimum of days available to make worth it a trip like this.
We will sail and ski around the island finding different objectives, bays to anchor, peaks , summits. Watch amazing landscape and wildlife.
There is terrain for everyone to ski mellow open bowls, couloirs and play and backcountry ski. Options for first descents in World class ski terrain.
Days are long in May so we have plenty of time to ski, relax and enjoy the area.
We will try to cover as much sea and ground as possible.
Day 9:
Fly out from Spitsbergen Island back to Tromso, back to regular world …
HISTORY
About Svalbard territory , means the “Cold Coast” it is the most Northern Island with mountains before the Arctic Circle – Longitude 10 and Latitude above parallel 74. 1000 km North of Tromso in Norway. Formed by 9 Islands. The main one is Spitsbergen and then Edge Islan, Barents Islands and others. The island was discovered in 1194, but it remained unknown to the modern world until rediscovered by the Dutch explorers Willem Barents and Jacob van Heemskerck in June 1596. Russians arrived about 1715. The main objective was the whaling industry in 1800, but then coal was the main industry. February 9, 1920, by a treaty granting possession to Norway and mineral rights on an equal basis to various European and other countries.
In Winter temperatures can get to -40 celsius. Many polar expeditions have made Svalbard their base for scientific purposes. There is a very high population of polar bears

- Quick dry pants with Schoeller material (North face, Mammut or similar)
- Merino wool long underwear
- Water proof Goretex pants
- 1 pair of long ski sintethic socks
- T shirt- Capilene or Merino wool ideal
- Thin fleece, like Patagonia R1 or similar with a hood ideal
- Mid fleece layer or synthetic Jacket with some insulation
- Down jacket or warm puffy
- Water proof Goretex jacket
- Thin Fleece gloves for skinning or waiting in belays

INCLUDES
- 1 night pre-expedition shared hotel accommodation in Ushuaia, Argentina. This room includes a continental breakfast.
- Group dinner in Ushuaia.
- Group transfers from the hotel to the ship on embarkation and from the ship to the airport on disembarkation and all miscellaneous service taxes and port charges.
- Breakfast, lunch and dinner on board
- Shore landings and Zodiac excursions as permitted by weather and local conditions.

Not Included
- Airfares to or from your home city, whether on scheduled or charter flights.
- Passport and visa expenses. Tourist entry fees may apply depending on your nationality.
- Any government arrival and departure airport taxes.
- Ski or trekking equipment.
- Any meals ashore with the exception of breakfast at the host hotel and the Welcome dinner on the evening prior to departure.
- Baggage, cancellation and travel insurance (emergency medical and evacuation insurance is mandatory.
- Excess baggage charges.
- Laundry, bar, beverage and other personal charges onboard the ship or at the hotel.
- Telecommunications charges or the customary gratuity at the end of the voyage for stewards, guides, and other service personnel.
- Tips for guides and hospitality staff.
