TRIP DETAILS

The idea of this Backcountry Ski Camp is to exploring the skiing around Bariloche, taking advantage of weather and snow conditions to get the best possible skiing.

The plan is to spend a couple of days playing in the backcountry accessed by the resort and then move into one of the backcountry huts to base out of. The huts are all above treeline, so with the slog out of the way we will have some incredible alpine terrain to play in.

The camps will focus on trip planning, terrain navigation, steep skiing and on the fly avalanche hazard and snow analysis. By incorporating participants into the planning, decision making and executing processes. We’ll be leaning on the guides local knowledge to find the best, long, fun powder runs while sharing tips for efficient backcountry travel.  With a 3:1 client to guide ratio there will be plenty of time for individual learning while we ski ourselves silly! We will assess the students to recognize the aspects of the mountains that hold good snow, recognize avalanche terrain, terrain traps, manage the risk and learn for the future how to move independently and safe in the mountains

Who are Eric Hjorleifson and Chris Rubens?

Chris Rubens:
Chris Rubens has been a globally recognized skier for the last ten years. Truly dedicated and extremely passionate about skiing in the mountains, Chris spends as much time as possible in the backcountry every winter, specializing in putting beautiful lines down mountains for both film and photo projects. He spends most of his winters collaborating with Salomon Freeski TV and Sherpas Cinema. Between ski trips, Chris resides in the town of Revelstoke, BC which provides a backyard of endless opportunities for outdoor pursuits.

Eric “Hoji” Hjorleifson:
There aren’t many skiers who are able to push the boundaries of the sport on multiple fronts the way Hjorleifson does. Whether it’s through riding jaw-dropping lines in films for Matchstick Productions or Sherpas Cinema, or by developing new ski and boot technology with companies like 4FRNT and Dynafit, the 30-year-old Canmore native is always finding ways to move the sport forward.
